3 Mindset Blocks that are Holding You Back

Is Your Mindset A Mess?

In the age of social media, there are no shortage of buzz words to obsess over.

It seems like everyone is inviting Marie Kondo into their closets, drinking kombucha, and singing the praises of keto diets and kangan water.

It is that time of year when everyone is trying to be and do better–and rightfully so–after all, who doesn’t want to be happy?

While these things are all great causes to undertake, like every other passing fad, people are doomed to fall flat with when it comes to making these changes last.  Unless. . . .

Unless one other thing changes with them:  Mindset.

What is Mindset?

Dictionary.com defines mindset as “the established set of attitudes held by someone”.  I believe mindset is much deeper than this.    Mindset is not only the way you feel about an idea.  Mindset is also how you allow yourself to believe and act about that idea.

Simply put, mindset is the positive or negative spin you put on something you experience or encounter.  Mindset can completely change the course of your life for better or for worse.  Don’t panic!  The good news is that mindset is 100% learned and mindset can be 100% relearned.

I go into detail on how to learn and relearn mindset in my course, Mindset Reset (more on that later).

The Mindset Issue . . .

The problem with mindset isn’t that people don’t want to change the way they think, it is that people don’t  know how powerful their thoughts are!  Most people don’t realize that a simple shift in their approach to a problem could make a world of difference in the outcome for them and for those around them!  Here are three ways your mindset is holding you back that you probably never even considered:

1.  You Think in Terms of Lack

Do you find yourself worried about bills being paid on time?  Do you worry about being late?  Are you constantly anxious over missing out on experiences?  Do you ruminate on how much you wish your situation could be better?  Your marriage?  Your relationship with your children?  Do you find yourself constantly feeling like you aren’t enough?

These are all signs of a scarcity mindset. Your brain has been conditioned to think that there is not enough.  There is not enough time, money, energy, attention, ability.  The issue with this scarcity mindset is that it is not these things that are lacking, it is YOUR perception of them.  With the scarcity mindset, you will never feel there is enough of anything, and you will be constantly striving to be and have enough.  It is a forever losing battle. Fortunately, the scarcity mindset is easily changed!

2.  You Operate Inside Your Comfort Zone

Are you terrified of stretching yourself beyond your means?  Do you hesitate to dream bigger dreams because you are afraid of failing?  Do you reserve luxury and relaxation for people who are wealthier and more successful than you?

These thoughts are a reflection of your mindset! You have been conditioned to believe that all you have ever had is all you ever can have.  You have been taught that to dream of any more is foolish, and perhaps, even dangerous.  You know that you have xyz job and people at that job make xyz salary, and you wouldn’t dream of pushing the envelope.  Often, these ideas are something that has been drilled into your head by well-meaning caregivers and teachers.

Don’t worry!  This mindset can be re-programmed as  well!  You can have and be anything you want.  It just takes a simple shift in how you see things.

3.  You See Others’ Success as a Barrier to Your Own

A quick indicator of a mindset block is to watch how you behave when others succeed.  In a fixed mindset, the idea of someone else succeeding immediately makes us focus on our own shortcomings, and, in worst case scenarios, faults.  This kind of lack is especially detrimental, because with scarcity it also brings negative feelings which can weigh down your entire vibration and sabotage all the good work you have done to reach your goals.

The comparison trap is an indicator that you are operating from a place of fear, that someone has beaten you to the punch, that they have taken your slice of the pie, and that there is no room for you at the table. How is that for a mouthful of cliches?

The key to this mindset block is to–you guessed it–reprogram this belief.  Before you know it, you will find yourself not only unencumbered by the success of others, but you will be GRATEFUL for their contributions to the world and to their ability to motivate and not deter you!

So what do you do with this information?

Now that you know what is holding you back, you can take steps to fix it. Mindset is like a muscle:  the more you work with it, the more results you will see.  I have several courses and offerings that will help retrain your mindset. You can learn more about those here. If you need more of a one-on-one approach, I also offer private coaching.  You can sign up for a consultation here to see if we are a good fit. More courses and offerings are in the works as well, so be sure to sign up for my mailing list so you don’t miss out. 😀 Lastly, I have a free community group called Unstoppable.  In Unstoppable, community members can offer support, admins provide discussion topics, and every Sunday we have a live session called Not So Small Talk.

No matter how you choose to deal with your mindset minefields, the sooner you make changes, the sooner you will see massive results!

The life you want is just thoughts away.

Go and get it!
